HP Lovecraft was one of the greatest and most unknown authors of the macabre story in history. He has been compared as a modern day Edgar Alan Poe. He wrote in relative obscurity until only a few years before his death. He most often wrote short stories for pulp-fiction magazines and has many credits for ghost-writing the stories of others. However he was not acknowledged as any sort of talented writer, even though the works of his ghost-self were doing well. It was not utill one of his corrsspodence associates set the gears in motion to get any real publishing. Even then he was not really know until the late 70's and had enjoyed much more popularity in the 80's and 90's. He was not just a writer of stories but authored a whole world of fantasy the likes of Tolkein and Baum only drempt of. He established the large co-op setting of the Cthulhu mythos and beyond. Sadly, Lovcraft died virtually penniless and unknown in his own time.
